  • RazoRock Lupo DE Safety Razor

The RazoRock Lupo safety razor has an interesting story. Many of our clients were frustrated because there is a very popular safety razor in the marketplace that is almost impossible to obtain. On top of that, these razors were selling for over $500 a pop! A good client then made an interesting proposal. He said to us, "If I send you one of these $500 razors, do you think you can make some under your RazoRock brand and sell them for a lot less than $500?" We hummed and hawed but eventually, we agreed. I received the razor and I shaved with it for a few weeks straight. It was an excellent shaver but had two characteristics I wasn't fond of. First, the DE blade tabs were exposed by a large amount making it easy to nick your ears or your nose. Second, because the head was mirror polished by hand, the tolerances were not the greatest, some area of the razor had been over-polished and the mating of the top cap and base plate were not to my satisfaction. Before producing it, we knew we had to correct these flaws. We decided to round the sides of the head in order to cover the blade tabs but not change the width of the safety bar where it contacts your skin, a nifty little solution. To make these razor accessible to everyone, the first run is CNC milled aluminum which allows us to sell the razor for under thirty bucks!

The RazoRock Lupo safety razor is CNC milled from corrosion-resistant 6066 aluminum making it lightweight and extremely durable. In addition, the aluminum has been anodized for added protection and corrosion-resistance.

RazoRock uses CNC milling for the Lupo safety razor because it is the most precise way to manufacture a razor. It's important that razors are made to high tolerances so the blade is held perfectly every time. Many of RazoRock's competitors use inferior casting processes to manufacture their razors; we believe RazoRock's milling process is the best in the industry!

NOTE: Please do NOT expect perfection with these razors. Although the quality is extremely high, the razor probably will not be absolutely 100% perfect. They are machined and finished to a very high user grade, not a jewel piece, the odd mark or blemish can be expected and there may be very tiny spots of color variations on the anodizing that arise from where the parts are held in the anodizing process.  If you are looking for or expecting jewel quality, this probably isn't the razor for you.

    What a surprise!

I bought this razor strictly for its light weight for use on bicycle touring trips where I’m carrying all my camping gear on my bike and I count grams to keep weight down. Upon receiving it I started shaving with it at home to test it out. Well here I am two weeks later and I’m still shaving with it every day because I like it so much. What a great razor. I own four other top-rated razors but this has quickly become my favorite. Last year I purchased another aluminum razor for the same reason - the Henson - but I strongly dislike the suction it creates and always felt I had to be very careful shaving with it, like I could easily nick myself. The Lupo has none of those problems. Highly recommend.

    Almost perfect for me

It is a very good safety razor. It is very efficient. I actually like it better than my Gillette and have always liked lightweight safety razors. The only thing I don't like is the handle. Apart from the fact that I don't like the design of the handle in general, it is also a bit slippery when wet when unscrewing.

    Great.

Great razor that is smooth shaving it's hard to nick yourself , easy to clean and maintain.
The only two cons would be light weight , but you can change handle to heavier one and you'll be fine. The other con is the blade gap is small so the hair and soap gets stuck if you have over 2 day of growth. You have to rinse razor often after each pass. If the blade gap would be increased to 0,70 or 0,90 it would make it perfect razor. If you're starting your shaving journey I strongly suggest to buy this razor.

    Stupidly Good.

If you appreciate aluminum razors with their light weight and easy maneuverability then pick up the aluminum Lupo. Will crush 3-4 days worth of beard in 2-3 passes, but can be a daily driver as well. I generally don't recommend light razors to beginners. No exception here.

    Pros:
    1. Impressive performance and priced aggressively.
    2. More favorably reviewed than the SS version.
    3. Blade alignment is perfect, and 'pins' are in the cap - not the base plate.
    4. Tight tolerances - no chatter. Narrow head. Good audio feedback.
    5. First razor I can recall liking that has covered blade tabs. Blade tabs on DEs have been exposed since the early 1900's - every Gillette DE made had them. This is not a 'problem' that needs to be 'fixed'. Nevertheless, the execution of it here is well done.

    Cons:
    1. Rounded head doesn't sit sideways, and some say can be a bit slippery changing blades - pat dry before changing blades and pay attention.
    2. Didn't love the handle at first, but it's growing on me.
    3. No stand available. This makes me think this razor is not a focus for IB, so get one while you can.
    4. Likely not a good first DE. Lack of weight can encourage pressure by beginners.

Came back to buy 2 more for backup/travel.
