  • RazoRock Superslant Double Edge Razor - L3

The RazoRock Superslant is a razor that has been two years in the making. Ever since our first slant, the RazoRock Stealth, we knew the slant concept was something special. Client feedback overwhelming told us that people loved the shave from our slant razors and it quickly became no secret that a helical slant’s added torque on the long axis of a double-edge blade adds stiffness and rigidity to the cutting edge. Why is this important? When you take a very thin very sharp blade and make it really stiff it cuts with greater efficiency, this translates to less tugging on the hairs and less irritation while shaving. Add this to the fact the blade is held at an angle to the shaving plane giving a slicing action to the shave versus a tradition shaving razor that applies more of a chopping action. The combination of these two attributes lead to a superior shave!

So, if the helical slant concept works then what is the purpose of a “new helical slant,” namely the RazoRock Superslant? Based on a lot of feedback we received from our first two CNC milled slants, the RazoRock Stealth and the RazoRock Wunderbar, we discovered two areas that needed improving. Many of our clients told us the RazoRock Stealth wasn’t aggressive enough and the RazoRock Wunderbar was too aggressive. This told us we needed a helical slant razor with adjustability. A robust design that could offer many difference blade gaps and exposures to suit different beard and skin types.

The RazoRock Superslant will have three core levels of aggression, from L1(MILD) to L3(AGGRESSIVE), but within these core levels there are 4 unique base plates to dial in the shave even further. Each and every base plate will be perfectly compatible with one universal top cap meaning you can change the way the Superslant shaves simply by swapping base plates.

Please keep in mind that within each level, the addition of a PLUS sign increases the aggression.  (Example: Level 1 which would be the mildest group available - L1, L1+, L1++L1++OC,...L1 would be the mildest and L1++OC would be the most aggressive in this grouping)

The second problem we discovered is that when you torque a double-edge blade into a helix shape you create a minor amount of blade-edge wave that is hard to see with the naked eye. This minor blade-edge wave can cause the razor to “bite” if you apply too much pressure to the skin while shaving. In order to solve this issue, we had to design a very unique razor head that can torque a double-edge blade into a helical shape without any effect on the cutting edge. This required a shape with precision clamping and tolerances that could only be achieved using a very complex and expensive German CNC machine under the watchful eye of a Master Machinist. What we created was the world’s first billet 316L stainless steel helical slant that is 5-axis simultaneous-milled. That’s a mouthful but if you buy a RazoRock Superslant you will be shaving with a safety that we believe is the most sophisticated razor to ever enter the traditional wet shaving world; ultimately, you will be the judge of that.

Finish: Please note, these razors are tools, not jewels. We use a vibratory tumbling finish process which maintains the highest possible tolerances for the razors. This means the razors will not be mirror finished and will not be mark-free. The razors may have some milling marks or finishing marks. The razors can always be jewelry polished by the client later but our goal is to sell the razor at the best possible tolerances and lowest possible price. The metal-on-metal contact from the handle locking against the base plate will create a ring mark on the base. It's common for handles to have micro dents from the tumbled finish.

    Specifications:

    Aggression Level: L3

Head Material: 316L Stainless Steel Billet

    Handle Material & Style : 316L Stainless Steel - UFO: 13 mm x 85 mm, ~2.0 oz weight

Finish: 3 Stage, 3 Media, vibratory tumble finish

Detail: Each Superslant head is engraved with "RAZOROCK", "SUPERSLANT", "CANADA" and a unique serial number.

    PROUDLY MADE IN ONTARIO, CANADA

NOTE: Differences between the different Levels

The "+" plates have a milled chamfer on the guard that creates extra aggression

The "++" plates have a milled step on the guard that creates a little more aggression from the "+"

The OC (OPEN COMB) plates are more aggressive than the "++" versions of each

As a general guide, the L1 plates will fall into the mild-medium area, the L2 plates into the medium-aggressive and the L3 plates into the aggressive with the L3++ & L3++OC being at the very top of the scale. In the near future we will add the SuperSlant to the razor scale on IB.

Based on our testing, the L2++ and the L3 would be the closest to the Wunderbar in terms of aggression but the Superslant is much smoother.

    Best value for money razor

Ive been a fan of the RR wunderbar, so when this new refined super slant L3 was released, I grabbed it.

The razor is the smoothest and most efficient razor for my beard type. The slant managed to get some great shaves from low end blades which are not so good performers in normal DE razors. Perhaps the slant makes them perform and push them for a good shave

The science of clamping a DE blade down has been perfected by RR in this razor. Zero blade chatter is not a myth anymore. Blade chatter is likely to bite and / or cause irritation. The earlier wunderbar did this, though rarely.

This L3 plate along with the L2++ OC plate have been my go to razors for a while now.

Cleaning my old dense grey whiskers on difficult areas like chin and under the chin neckline are effortless even with the ATG pass.

Skin feels healthy and soft like a baby's backside.

Excellent product RR ! priced lower than what competition charges for a lesser performing razor.

Great razor & Mike is the man!

I’m relatively new to single blade shaving, but when ever I do something, I always jump in with both feet. Everything I read, pointed to this razor with the L3 base, so when I went to buy it and saw that it was out of stock, I was bummed. I found one in Italy, and got it, along with a made to order Saponificio brush. I can’t imagine making better purchases. I got feather blades, which ended up being a bit aggressive for me, so Mike was very helpful in recommending several blades, which worked out perfectly, along with upping my game with a proper pre-shave, awesome soap and a proper after shave. I can’t believe this world escaped me for so many years! I also purchased the L2 base, to see how that works, maybe with the feather blades.
I didn’t know shaving could be so much fun! Hats off to Mike, here at Italian Barber, for all his help, even though I didn’t buy the two big ticket items from him. Says a lot!!

After using the super slant l3 for a month straight I have no regrets of buying it. It checks all my boxes efficiency, smoothness, ease of use, it is my go to razor right now I love the shave it gives me. And so far any blade I throw in it does wonderfully, I have noticed some blades center holes that will fight the razor clamping down fully but screwing the handle or pushing the blade against the base plate down locks it in the correct way and will bend to fit perfectly but it does not affect the shave or alignment, I’m guessing some blades are slightly thicker, measurements are different depending where the blade is made. And the tolerances in this razor are super tight. If you like the wunderbar or even thought it was a little aggressive the L3 is so much smoother and just as efficient! Another great razor from razorock!

Like another reviewer, I have used the vintage Merkur "Super Slant." I have one in my collection, along with a vintage Fasan Double Slant. I love "seriously helical" slants! I also own a Stealth and a Wunderbar.

The Superslant puts all of them in the shade. I bought the L3 as it was recommended as being close to the Wunderbar. For those of us who use the "WB" we know it's an incredible shave but that the razor can nick the inattentive. Evidently some of that is due to "micro-waves" in the blade of a helical slant. The RazoRock team's two years of research and analysis have really paid off.

Almost any razor can be good "WTG" and the Superslant is no exception. It's also good "XTG" and, wonder of wonders, it is a very efficient shaver "ATG" as well. I have a couple of hard to shave areas that are now smoother than they've ever been.

The Superslant has excellent blade clamping and a bit more blade reveal than the Wunderbar. It sings, but quietly. When the sound of edge hitting hair goes away, you're done with a BBS.

I'm looking forward to the OC plates as well.

    Well Done!

    Wunderbar 2.0

Purchased l3 superslant, having 4 consistent shaves with it i can say it is a very efficient slant razor, the wunderbar is great as well but the new design of the superslant is something special! Just the right amount of blade feel and super easy to find the right angle. The L3 plate isn’t menacing by any means in fact in my opinion it is smoother than the wunderbar and just as efficient as you would expect from a slant. Grab one if you get a chance!
