  • Ever since RazoRock stopped producing the Captain's Choice Bay Rum shaving soap, we've been getting dozens of requests every month for a new bay rum product. The problem is, I'm not a fan of clove-y scents nor can my skin tolerate a lot of cinnamon in a soap or aftershave; I know, it sounds selfish but if I don't like a scent, I have a very hard time putting the RazoRock name on it.

    For the last two years, we been experimenting with different bay rums and in the spring of 2017 it finally hit me, why not produce a scent that is heavy is natural bay laurel extract and very light in spice. We tested a few variations and we fell in love with this one. Natural bay laurel has a sweet scent with just a touch of spice in the backdrop. This is a bay leaf scent for guys that typically aren't fans of American style bay rums. It's one of those scents where the more you use it, the more you can't go without it.

    Scent: A natural bay laurel scent.

    Black Bay

    The aftershave is simply, a nice earthy bay laurel scent. I've made my own bay rum aftershave with added scents, but this one truly represents the bay laurel leaf. I bought a bay laurel plant and used the leaves for my aftershave. Great product, no fluff. The shaving soap matches perfectly.

    Bay without Captain Morgan

    I love natural West Indies Bay (pimenta racemosa). While some of the cinnamon/clove/allspice aromas do work together, the scent of pure Bay is lovely, and I'm glad that I, er, splashed on this splash. And my wife likes it, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

    As far as performance, it ranks with several other RR aftershaves I've tried (Amici, Emperor, Irish Countryside) EXCEPT that my perception of menthol in this, well, I don't feel it. It did sting when applying and my neck, where I truly benefit from menthol, did not feel the cooling & slight numbing that I expected. Oh well, I still LOVE the scent and the face feel after the sting dies away.

Black Bay

Bay without Captain Morgan
