  • RazoRock Shaving Soap Stick - Blue Label (Formerly Blue Barbershop)

Shaving soap sticks have been around traditional wet shaving for decades but if you are new to shaving with a brush and soap you may be wondering what this product is. A shaving stick is really easy to use; you prepare your beard by washing it with warm water and if you desire, applying a little bit of pre shave, then you wet the stick with some hot water and rub it all over your beard stubble in circular motions. When you have a nice thin layer of soap covering your stubble, you then begin creating a lather right on your face with a damp shaving brush. Make sure to spend a few minutes working in the lather and add droplets of water to the brush hairs/fibers if needed. If you have a thinner beard on your cheeks, you may want to rub more soap into the chin area of your beard, for most men, the chin stubble is the thickest and easiest area to apply soap from a stick. Remember that creating lather with a shaving soap stick is a learned art, give it a good 15-20 shaves before determining if you like it or not, you probably won't get the best of lathers the first few attempts. Patience will be rewarded!

    Great stick but...

Smells nice. Sort of modern barbershop/cologne. Lathers easy by applying the stick to your face directly. Has a some what drying effect on my sensitive skin, but not too bad compared to other brands. The only major draw back to this stick is not having a nice travel shave stick container for this, like the classic little aluminum/silver tubes. I'd pair one made by Razorock with this in a heartbeat.

    Slick!

Lathers great, similar to Tabac & Mitchell’s Wool Fat but it is much slicker! I get a light, floral scent from this.

    Good and Bad

First, and perhaps most importantly to potential buyers, this shave stick performs very well. Creates thick lather quickly and provides adequate cushion. Unfortunately, that's where the list of pros ends for me. The soap burns my skin. The scent is very off-putting and it has a 'chemical' or 'cleaning agent' smell to it. Probably why it's covered up with a 'baby powder' smell. I am a big fan of the old RazoRock Baby Blue aftershave and was expecting something similar. This smells nothing like Baby Blue (which appears to be discontinued). I'm really bummed because I bought four sticks and two tubs of this soap. I'll be giving it all away as soon as possible. God, I normally love RazoRock soaps (I own about 15 of them) but this stuff is just awful in terms of scent and chemical composition. Sorry guys... I guess you can't please everyone all the time.
