  • Fine Stoneware Lather Bowl - Red/White

The Fine Shaving Lather Bowl has been thoughtfully designed from the ground up just for this purpose.

When evaluating shaving lather bowls, there are several criteria to consider including:

    1. Storage - Men’s wet shaving bowls are a bulky piece of equipment when compared to other toiletries, and most bathrooms are not well-equipped to conveniently store them. The Fine Lather Bowl is the first and only to support wall mounting.
    2. Grip - Working with a delicate item in wet and soapy conditions over a hard surface on a regular basis requires a tool that’s easy to hold on to. The handle on the Fine Lather Bowl is just right for slipping your thumb through while holding it in the palm of your hand.
    3. Texture - When making a lather, a degree of texture to your bowl aids in more quickly aerating your soap or cream. The Fine Lather bowl features low-profile ribs for just this purpose.
    4. Color - As you get to know the lathering properties of a particular soap or cream, you’ll appreciate the color contrast between a dark bowl surface and your pure white lather. All Fine Lather Bowls sport a dark-colored inner bowl.

The 3” bowls I often see are too small for me. I like a lot of surface area to lather. Bowl should last forever if treated kindly. Advertises explosive lather. All I can say is bowls are easier to load and build the lather with than most mugs. Gave as a gift for my uncle for 75th birthday.

Function is awesome finish is a bummer

Function: It is amazing. Love the ergonomics of this bowl. I have looked for the perfect bowl and I think this is the right balance of all functional elements for me.

Finish: It is lacking. A few of the reviews mentioned the sloppy glazing so I was not shocked to see inconsistent and thin spots throughout. The red glaze drip against the white handle is a big disappointment. I would return it thinking it slipped through quality control but it sounds like it is consistent with the Fine bowls on the market now.

I give it 5 stars for function and 2 stars for finish. I felt 3 stars was fair for an all around score. The finish is 100% controllable by Fine. I would have happily paid twice as much for this bowl if the finish was better.

The ones made in Thailand were so much better

Make no mistake, this is a well-designed lather bowl that every wet-shaver should own. My only criticism of the design is that I wish the bowl was about an inch taller, but that just might be my sloppy technique.

However, I must admit that this is my second Fine lather bowl - my first one was an ivory bowl that slipped out of my hand and broke. This original one was made in Thailand and had nice, crisp embossing, defined ridges, and had thick, opaque paint.

This one, made in China, is very sloppily made. The hole on the handle is much smaller, the logo on the back is barely legible, and the paint is so thin that I can see the white bleed through the red paint. It is objectively inferior to the previous version. There's no way the pictured bowl is a Chinese one.

All that said, this is still a four-star item because it does function so well and is fairly priced. I'm surprised lather bowls are so rare.
