RazoRock OLD TYPE Safety Razor Head
Head only for the RazoRock OLD TYPE razor.
It's great to always have a back up! In my opinion, the OLD TYPE is the smoothest shaving open comb razor head on the market. On the aggression scale it's about a 4/10 but it's a highly efficient shaver.
Standard threading M5 x .8
Weight: ~ 0.8 oz
Pairs well with medium to sharp blades such as Astra Blue. Efficient yet mild and nonirritating. The self lubricating bit helps smoothness too.
I just received my open comb razor head from Italian Barber and I needed a shave. I added a brand new Permasharp blade. It is definitely more aggressive than my Razorock Teck-2 . . . . and it definitely cleaned off the facial hair WITHOUT any nicks or cuts.
Will definitely be using the razor head ahead, though after having not shaved in 5-days, I will use the Teck-2 for the 1st pass (with the grain) and followed by a more aggressive razor head for 2nd and 3rd passes.
Vintage look without the bite. Open combs have tended to be a little aggressive for my daily shave routine. Fun when I have the time but not for a more hurried daily morning shave.
The RR OLD TYPE is different in that it is mild enough to be an everyday driver while retaining the efficiency we all look for in an open comb. I've mated mine with a solid-brass handle, and it provides a smooth two-pass shave with only a little touch up required. It's more aggressive than an EJ89, but nothing to fear if you have decent technique and are careful.
The Voskhod's and Polsilver's I favor evenly centered with minimal manual adjustment and provide auditory feedback, but are so smooth I had to check to make sure I had blade on my face.
In short, I'm enjoying my OLD STYLE and am glad I own it. Very nice finish and surprisingly high quality in this price range.
Looks like a Gillette Old Type, doesn't shave like one - it's far too mild by comparison. However, if I use a bottom shim, this is a very good shaver. I wrote up more of my thoughts on my wetshaving blog: https://brushandblade.wordpress.com/2019/03/31/sotd-not-exactly-an-old-type/
The RazoRock Old Type simply is what it is, a modern safety razor designed to be similar to early Gillette razors. It’s not an exact copy but it’s close enough to provide a vintage feel for people new to wet shaving. It certainly reminds me of what my father used to use.
I purchased the Old Type out of curiosity and because of the low price - what can you lose for under $10? I was curious to know how it compared to my lineup from Muhle, Merkur, EJ and Parker. At first I considered it a cheap razor that provided a mediocre shave. Over time, as I became more confident with my technique, I began turning to the Old Type more. Now I use it often and get great shaves!
The quality of this razor head is good enough to be able to compare it to more expensive brands. If you receive one with blemishes, order another and keep two. And if anyone is curious about how the Old Type compares to the Merkur Open Comb head, they are similar in looks but feel different when shaving. IMO, the Old Type has a bit of a bite the Merkur does not. You feel the blade more with the Old Type. Both will navigate around your nose perfectly - something many other heads can’t. Neither will cut you unless you are very careless. I Rotate the Old Type with the Merkur and SLOC among others (that cost much more) from month to month.
I really enjoy shaving with the Old Type! Thanks for the cool vintage vibes Italian Barber! Five stars.
