10 Vi-John Super Platinum Coated Stainless DE Blades, 2 packs of 5

I'm in the process of relearning how to wet shave after forty years with an electric shaver so I'm very much a newbie and I bought a selection of blades to try. These had good reviews so I picked some up but wasn't expecting much. What a surprise they were! Nice and smooth, yet sharp. Even with my poor technique they gave me an excellent shave with no hint of a nick or any irritation. This was with the RazoRock Quick Change, an extremely mild razor that needs a pretty sharp blade to produce that smooth a result.

I did my first shave with this Vi-John blade, using the Razor Rock old fashion open-comb razor head for 2nd and 3rd pass . . . . my first pass is with the Razor Rock Mamba 57 razor.

Never heard of these before and the packaging is pretty bland but they had a couple glowing reviews here so tried them out. Granted my expectations were low but these actually surprised me. They felt very similar to Astra Platinums and kept decent sharpness for a few shaves. Unfortunately these and Astra Platinum blades tug on my annoyingly tough hairs so these will not be my blade of choice but if you are an Astra fan maybe give these a spin.

I used this blade in game changer .89 and it was very very good. With a good slick soap this blade performance was excellent but I don't know if it would be the same in a very mild razor that does not have stiff blade support. I would have to try it in a mild razor to see. At this moment I would recommend it in a semi aggressive to aggressive razor. Very smooth and kind of reminds me of Rapira blades like the Swedish steel or Platinum lux. It is packaged like the Rapira blades so I would not be surprised it was not a made by contract in some way.

I bought the Vi-John Super Platinum Blade with a little hesitance but was proven very wrong. I am a veteran wet-shaver, wiry beard, sensitive skin, this blade performed very well!

As I began to shave the first impression was excellent smoothness and good efficiency. Sharpness was in the range of a Voskhod, Treet Platinum, Astra Platinum blade— balanced.

I’ve only had a few shaves with this blade but it has delivered excellent results. I’m not one to test longevity (I just don’t use my blades for long periods) but I would estimate a normal range of longevity easily.

I think these blades will please many shavers who want smoothness and just enough efficiency to get the job done without tugging or extra effort. These aren’t second tier but solid if not impressive performers.

Give these blades a try and I think you’ll be pleased if not very impressed!
