I have a theory when it comes to shaving and it goes like this... the key element to an irritation-free shave is to run the blade over your face in the least possible number of passes. When you shave, you are actually exfoliating the skin on your face, in other words, you are removing the surface layer of dead skin cells. This is a good thing but where it becomes a negative is when you actually start removing living skin cells; that's what causes irritation and what leads to uncomfortable redness and burning. The comment I usually get from people when I preach this theory is... “YES! But aren't there products that will help heal razor burn and irritation?” There certainly are, but there is no better cure than avoiding it all together in the first-place.

This brings me to the Feather Double Edge Razor Blade. The Feather Safety Razor Company of Japan are experts in manufacturing the very best razor blades in the world. What most people don't know is that one of their primary businesses is developing and manufacturing surgical blades which are used worldwide in precision optical surgery and many micro-surgical procedures. Their surgical business demands they employ only the highest-quality, state-of-the-art technology and manufacturing practices and also that they select only the highest quality surgical grade stainless steels. You can rest assured that these same high-quality standards are also employed in the manufacture of their shaving blades.

Coming back to my first point above, how can you get the best possible shave with the least number of passes (of the blade). The answer is simple, you must shave with the sharpest and most precise blade possible! In my opinion, Feather is the company that produces this blade. This is why the Feather Artist Club straight razors are the instruments of choice (or weapon of choice) for the best Master Barbers, the world over.

These Feather Double Edge blades are made to fit any standard double edge razor and can deliver anywhere from 5-10 close and comfortable shaves. The blades are individually wrapped in paraffin coated paper and are packed in hermetically sealed dispensers; each dispenser also has a “blade bank” on the underside for safe storage of used blades.

    Efficient

This is a replenishment of stock and wouldn't be without. This is the most efficient blade that I can find and works with the least passes. Would recommend this product.

    The Best So Far

I hadn't used a safety razor since my 20's and I'm 61 now so I guess I'm kind of a newbie. I bought everything I needed from here (Italian Barber) including a selection of blades. One of them was a packet of Feather blades which I had to work up the courage to use. Man, am I glad I did! They gave me a really smooth, close shave with minimal effort on my part. I was very careful and paid close attention to what I was doing, but not so much that it took the fun out of shaving. A mild razor (RR Quick Change) and a sharp blade is perfect for me and my skin.

    Lives up to the hype

I can see why people love these blades so much. I'm fairly new to safety razor shaving and have only tried a few DE blades. It's amazing how dramatically Feather blades stand out favorably by comparison to the others. I have tried blades that I find more comfortable (e.g., Kai), but none that achieves the perfect smooth closeness of Feathers. I have experienced some unpleasant burn/soreness with these blades, but I chalk that up to learning curve. Will continue to try out different blades, but so far Feathers are the benchmark.

    Extremely Sharp

As others have mentioned, these blades are considered the sharpest blades available. These blades normally last twice a long as others before getting dull. The first shave with a feather is not the best, usually the second and third use of the blade provides best results.

First time I used one, I was worried I'd make a mess of my face. You need some experience before trying a Feather. The name is misleading these things are more like samurai swords if you are not careful.

Everyone who is a wet shaver needs to try the feathers at least once. Just be careful and don't rush your shave with this blade and you'll be a happy shaver.

    Sharpest blades

Everyone that I have talked to mentioned do not use this blade if you are new to wetshaving. I waited until I do have an understanding of the process and a better technique of shaving. I do have to say that after using this with my Edwin Jaeger DE89, it was a very good experience for me not a cut or nick to my skin, mind you I was very careful and took my time shaving, WTG, ATG and a little clean up is all it took to get BBS. I won't try it with my open Comb razor, not yet but maybe after a few more months of practice I will give it a try.
