  • What is the MJ-90A? We took the ever popular DE89 razor head, studied it, analyzed all it's positive and negative qualities and made it WAY better!

What did we do and why is it better?

    1) Materials: Instead of low-quality zinc-alloy (Zamak/pot metal), we used aircraft aluminum block for the head and 316L stainless steel rod for the handle.

    2) Build: Instead of cheap, non-precise stamping/casting, we have built the razor using precision CNC milling, both for the head and handle. The tolerances are superior to the DE89.

    3) Design: Instead of having the blade tabs exposed, we have milled the tolerances of the guideposts to precisely hold the blade with very little blade play, meaning the blade tabs can be covered, protecting your precious ear lobes :)

    4) Longevity: The DE89 is well known for its threaded post snapping off. Why? Because it uses cheap pot metal and because it's post is spot welded on. Drop it from 12-18 inches and the post breaks off into the handle rendering your $40-45 razor useless and ready for the landfill. We completely milled the top cap from a block of aircraft aluminum, meaning the top cap is one solid piece, no broken posts here!

    5) Handle: Instead of using a hollow cheap handle, we have milled our handle from solid 316L marine-grade stainless steel and hand polished it. We have also milled in our RazoRock Halo rings for extreme grip and comfort!

    6) Price: Even though we made all the necessary improvements above, it sells for only $39.99! How does this even make sense when the competition is selling a far inferior product for $45-65? I'll leave that with you to ponder :)

With the RazoRock brand, our goal is to make things better and less expensive.

Success = Value to our clients.

Handle Material: 316 marine-grade stainless steel, hand polished

Head Material: 6061 billet aluminum, anodized black finish

    Handle Weight: ~3.1 oz

    Handle Length: 90 mm

    Handle Diameter: 13 mm

    Thread: M5 x .8

Aggression: Medium aggression razor (Joe's Rating: 6 out of 10), highly efficient.

NOTE: Please do NOT expect perfection with these razors. Although the quality is extremely high, the razor probably will not be absolutely 100% perfect. They are machined and finished to a very high user grade, not a jewel piece, the odd mark or blemish can be expected and there may be very tiny spots of color variations on the anodizing that arise from where the parts are held in the anodizing process.  If you are looking for or expecting jewel quality, this probably isn't the razor for you.

    Great First Razor

I have nothing to compare this razor to because I am knew to single blade DE shaving. However, when I went to buy the "best" beginner razor, I found a bunch of reviews that were frustrated with the handle breaking off. One lone reviewer suggested that the RazoRock MJ-90A was the way to go so here I am. This thing, as advertised, is incredibly precise. The parts fit together perfectly and the blade is held precisely where it needs to be. It was so easy to load a blade. I love the machined stainless handle. It looks modern and cool but is plenty easy to grip with wet hands. I like the heavy handle paired with the aluminum head as well. I feel like that combo shifts the center of gravity down the handle of the razor a bit which I think I will like.

I have an angular face and medium/coarse hair that requires a daily shave. I have shaved with a Gillette Fusion 5 Proglide blade for years and that was the best cartridge shave I could get. This razor is no more aggressive on my face than that and in two passes with a Derby blade (and a beginner's lack of confidence) I got the best shave of my life! I wouldn't want anything more aggressive than this for my skin for awhile. If you are worried about the big gap or aggressiveness of this razor at all I would probably get the BBS standard instead.

From a customer service standpoint the the Italian Barber has been awesome. Plenty of info on the site to help me figure out if this was a good razor for me. Fast shipping and free since I was getting kitted out of the first time. Prices as good as Amazon. And I was pleasantly surprised to find a 5 pack of Derby blades in the box with my razor! Thanks for the unexpected, but appreciated, gift!

I got the MJ-90A because I like my Razolution DE razor with the same head style/design, but was surprised when I got it. The gap on the is vast, it's a canyon compared to it's German counterpart.
So it is not mild like the de89 or Razolution, but it does give a good shave as long as you're careful with it. On my first shave I got a pretty good nick when the huge gap caught the skin on my neck ( a lesson to maintain tension on your skin when shaving I guess).

You will absolutely love the MJ-90A

I don’t usually do reviews, but I was so pleased with the MJ-90A razor that I feel that it is required! I had a Muhle R89 Grande for several years, and it was my absolute favorite shave over my Merker’s, Parker’s, and Gillette vintages etc.. however, it appears the Muhle R89 heads also suffer from the same issue as the Edwin Jagger DE89 – they snap off at the post… I e-mailed the folks here at Italian Barber asking for a close equivalent to the R89 and Michael replied and recommended the Mission and the upgrade, the MJ-90A . I ordered the MJ-90A, as well as the Mission head. I have not had the chance to try the Mission yet, but it has found a new home on my Muhle handle, but I just finished my first shave with the MJ, and WOW - I am so very thoroughly pleased with it’s performance! It surpassed the R89 IMHO – My thanks to Michael and the folks at IB for taking the time to review my questions and make their recommendations – folks if you like the DE89/R89 razors then you will absolutely love the MJ-90A.

I am a newbie to safety razors and have acquired a few others but the MJ90a is my daily driver now. I was blown away by how close the shave is and I am still using up my old inventory of gels and cream I used with the disposables. I love shiny things and a well built piece of equipment and this RR is beautiful and high quality. I have packed away the 34C as it is not in same league as the MJ90 for fit, finish, and performance. I also have a GC84 and it is very similar but a bit more aggressive so I switch off with it every few days as I have not determined fully which I prefer. Both are great choices! Cheers to Italian Barber for offering such value and quality!

    Not improved over Edwin Jagger

This is a nicely finished razor, however it is not an improvement over the Edwin Jagger 89 razor. The MJ-90A has a much wider blade gap and is much more likely to nick and cut. I threw the head away and kept the handle as I do like that design.
