  • The Goodfellas' smile Impero Open Comb Double Edge Safety Razor

There are many countries in the world that make safety razors.  What is difficult to understand, however, is where Italy fits in to this world of shaving. Italy is the country that has always been associated with the true art of shaving and this is how the Impero project came to life.

The idea was to create something beautiful, precise and functional, able to reflect Italian inspiration, luxury and production capacity.  The Goodfellas' smile set out to create a safety razor head with an open guard (Open Comb) and they opted for a degree of shaving depth higher than the average to allow it to be used both on 3 or 4 day beards and on occasional shaves.  The Open Comb version of the Impero safety razor is more aggressive than the closed comb(safety bar) version.  The head is made of high quality satin die-cast Zamak.

The handle is made of 303 stainless steel with hard chrome treatment which makes the product scratch resistant, rustproof and can potentially last a lifetime.  Furthermore, the classic but refined design make this safety razor a real must have and a grip champion even in extremely adverse situations.

    Handle length: 90 mm
    Weight: 110 gr

    Needs to be better

I bought this a few weeks ago.
First up it did not come with a stainless handle but one of aluminium which made it head heavy.
My shaves with this was disappointing and I had to go back and finish with another razor as it left heavy stubble on each side of the chin and along the jawline that the Goodfella couldn't get rid of without a lot of irritation.
I tested this with the Nacet, Bic Chrome Platinum, Astra Platinum Superior and Kai blades.
I shaved WTG and then XTG (all tests were with brand new blades, same shave style, brush, prep, soap and 5 days growth).
The Nacet and Bic both left the long stubble in the same areas. The Astra left long stubble on chin only and the Kai left no excess stubble in those areas but the finished shave was notably rougher than what I would normally leave it at.
This razor may suit someone but not me.
