Splash type liquid aftershave with an intriguing scent

This seems to be a good quality product, but it didn't suit my needs so please read my review with that in mind. Your mileage will vary!

I bought this on a whim when I finally ran out of the "(White Jar) Proraso Pre & Post Cream - Green Tea and Oat - For Sensitive Skin". I liked that product fairly well, but its texture unlike any other product I'd yet tried - slick and I guess "durable" - so in the back of my mind I wondered if it wasn't better as a pre than a post shave product. Since I felt the Proraso was a good product, I bought this balm of theirs looking for something along the lines of the RazoRock Wax Balm or the Chatillon Lux Skin Salve, a "wetter" lotion that spreads and soaks in more readily. Well, this certainly is wetter! This Proraso has the consistency of a Zingari Man recovery splash - basically a liquid with the helpful ingredients in suspension - if maybe a tad thicker and smoother. It feels fine on the face but for me it is a bit tricky to apply - if I dab it on my palm then I don't get enough product, but if I tip it I worry that I will pour out too much. That probably says more about me than this product; I think if you are less "precious" about how much you put on you will probably be fine just tipping a bit in the hands and liberally applying it.

As far as the scent goes, it does fit into the slot left open by the green tea and oat cream. It is subtle, but definitely not absent. Although the product itself is very liquid, the scent strikes me as "dry" somehow, probably on account of the cypress. I'd never had something with this combo, so I wasn't sure what to expect. For me this is a rather neutral, healthy, masculine, kind of clean scent. Maybe it would be especially good after a workout. I wouldn't say I personally like it as much as I'd hoped, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are many who do like it.

Through no fault of its own, this product is not what I was looking for. If I'd been able to try it before buying it I would have passed. But, since I did buy it, I'll give it a solid 3 stars. If you are looking for a "splash" type of aftershave or one with these scents, you'll probably rate it a 4.
