  • Fatip Testina Gentile DE Safety Razor - Noce 42134

Fatip, the Italian razors with the original brass head, are handmade in Premana, district overlooking the lake Como, well known thanks to the expertise and skilled production of metals.  The well-balanced design perfectly ensures a refined, precise shaving experience.

In 2015, Fatip used their experience and expertise to develop an entire new razor head called the "Testina Gentile" or in english "Gentle Head".  Their traditional open comb design is legendary in tradionational wet shaving circles for it's efficient and aggressive shaving attributes.  The Testina Gentile is a totally different approach, it's a mild yet efficient design that flexes the blade more than average, similar to the Merkur 45 and RazoRock Baby Smooth.  Fatip has achieved all the perfect balance of efficiency and safety.

This 42134 model comes fitted with a beautiful walnut wood handle.

    Handmade in Premana, Italy.

    Weight: ~2.2 oz

    Handle Length: ~104 mm

Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun

There used to be a commercial for Doublemint Gum: "Double your pleasure, double your fun, get two gums in one with Doublemint Gum." Such is the case with the Fatip Testina Gentile. A beauty to behold and exquisite in design and manufacture. But I am reminded of what another user said, "If you can't align the blade, the Fatip is defective, if you have to and can align the blade, it's normal." Perhaps owing to the relative softness of the brass beneath the chrome, such is unavoidable: lest a tight-fitting blade abrade the alignment posts. And therein lies the dilemma.

I just completed my third shave with the Gentile. Absent a micrometer, exact alignment of the blade eluded me, but I got as close as my old eyes would allow. Having done so, I shaved. Using one side of the head, the shave was mild and effortless. Using the other side of the head, the shave was aggressive and arduous. I didn't know whether to content myself with a good shave using only the mild side or go for the closest shave possible with the aggressive side. The experience was a bit schizophrenic and left one portion of my face feeling almost smooth but nick free, and the other portion of my face about as BBS as could be expected albeit with several weepers.

In time, I may perfect the blade alignment. Regardless, the Gentile is well-finished, attractive, well balanced, and reasonably priced. No regrets in buying this one, but I recommend only to the patient and daring.
