    Ever since RazoRock stopped producing the Captain's Choice Bay Rum shaving soap, we've been getting dozens of requests every month for a new bay rum soap. The problem is, I'm not a fan of clove-y scents nor can my skin tolerate a lot of cinnamon in a soap or aftershave; I know, it sounds selfish but if I don't like a scent, I have a very hard time putting the RazoRock name on it.

    For the last two years, we been experimenting with different bay rums and in the spring of 2017 it finally hit me, why not produce a scent that is heavy is natural bay laurel extract and very light in spice. We tested a few variations and we fell in love with this one. Natural bay laurel has a sweet scent with just a touch of spice in the backdrop. This is a bay leaf scent for guys that typically aren't fans of American style bay rums. It's one of those scents where the more you use it, the more you can't go without it.

    To make this soap even more special, we have added Vegetable Charcoal to the formula, which is great for detoxifying and re-energizing your skin. Don't get scared with you open the jar, because this soap is a deep green color and probably something you've never seen before.

    Black Bay Shaving Soap not up to the job

    I found the soap unsatisfactory at the most important aspect, namely, slickness to ease the eazor accross the face. It is a poor razor lubricant so I will not be ordering this agaim. The Razorock shaving pucks are far superior.

    Great scent but not something I'll reorder

    I'm a big fan of Razorock shaving soaps, but Black Bay strikes me as an outlier in the product range. The scent is a really nice take on Bay Rum - emphasizing the bay over the clove for a scent that's more sophisticated and less cloying than other Bay Rums.
    But it has a different color, texture and skin feel than other Razorock soaps I've tried - even those that are based on the same "super formula".
    To me, the lather was wanting and it left my skin feeling dry and tight compared to other Razorock soaps - both the super formula and the super tallow formula (which is my preference).
    The thing I like most about Razorock in general is that every aspect of their products truly reflects the ingredients; the scents aren't created by just dumping in a bunch of essential oils.
    In this case, I can only assume the ingredients that create the scent take away from the other properties I've come to expect from Razorock. So, in summary, great company with great soaps at a great value - but for me this is the least of them.

    Do not be afraid!

    I’ll admit that when I first opened the lid I thought I had purchased pesto!
    I had read the other reviews before I purchased it though so I knew I would be green. I lathered it up and gave it a go. I really like this soap. It is not too spicy like some Bay Rum scents and leans heavily on the bay side. It is a nice soap to have in the rotation! Thanks Razorock!
